A silver award for Fiat drivelines

The Turin driveline plant is the first FPT Industrial site in Italy to receive Silver Level certification in the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) programme.

FPT Industrial is part of CNH Industrial, dedicated to the design, production and sale of powertrains for on and off-road vehicles, marine and power generation applications.

Navistar ditches DT466 in Class 6/7 trucks

Behind the news that Navistar International has had to endure a third quarter loss of $247 million and the subsequent loss of 500 jobs, is the admission the company is blaming much of the financial loss on its transition to the use of Selective Catalytic Converters (SCR) for engines powering its medium and heavy duty trucks.

Navistar president and chief executive officer Troy Clarke admitted: “This includes resizing our company to match our current business environment.”

He added: "We still face a few significant challenges, but we have laid the groundwork to solve them, and obviously, we want to accelerate our rate of progress."

Navistar’s Clarke: Three into one is a must

Troy Clarke, Navistar International’s chief executive officer has let it be known the company has still not finalised its engine strategy.

Clarke, announcing second quarter results, now admits the company will decide by “the end of the year” how to deal with a situation where the company has three engine facilities but only needs one.

Many expected this month that Clarke would spell out in detail how engine overcapacity could be resolved, but clearly more time is needed to deal with what is a very sensitive issue.

Navistar starts shipping MaxxForce 13 SCR

According to Diesel Progress, Navistar, Inc. has started shipping – ahead of schedule – its first International ProStar trucks powered by the MaxxForce 13 SCR diesels.

 This follows certification of its SCR-based 13-litre diesel engine earlier this month by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB). 

Navistar claimed it began shipping the first units on April 26, from truck plants in Escobedo, Mexico and Springfield, Ohio.

CGI diesels in the news at Navistar

Diesel engines with compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder blocks are hitting the headlines at Navistar International.

Navistar has just showcased its production-ready International TerraStar  4x4 commercial truck, one of the company's newest additions to its Class 5-8 portfolio, at the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Launched in 2010 in a 4x2 configuration, the TerraStar, is the smaller sibling to the DuraStar.
