Opposed-piston engines for road vehicles have proved to be a moving target. Mystifying and elusive. Promises are made and not fulfilled. But now it looks as though there could be light at the end of the tunnel. But still the light at the end of the tunnel is set for 2018.

Achates spends $125 million on new two-stroke

An executive of Achates Power Inc. has revealed the company has invested $125 million developing a new two-stroke engine that uses compacted graphite iron (CGI)  for its highly-stressed cylinder block.

It’s official: Zhongding is an investor in EcoMotors

EcoMotors has today broken its long silence to report that it has secured a lead investor for its largest customer, Zhongding Power, giving renewed emphasis for the opposed-piston two-stroke diesel engine (opoc) the two firms are engaged in bringing to market.

Cummins in opposed-piston engine deal

Cummins Inc. has partnered with Achates Power, Inc. of San Diego, California which has been awarded a $14 million project to develop next-generation engines for tactical and combat vehicles.
